Prime Minister Dean Barrow Wins Belize General Elections Third Time
The Belize Consulate in Israel congratulates the United Democratic Party (UDP) and Prime Minister Dean Barrow for winning the general elections in Belize held on November 4, 2015. The win marks Prime Minister Barrow’s third consecutive term in office, unprecedented in the post-independence political era in Belize.
As a result of the elections, the government chose Mr. Wilfred Peter Elrington for a third term as Belize’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Elrington leads the representation of Belize in the three regional organisations: Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and the Central American Integration System (SICA). Belize is the only country to hold full membership in all three organisations. Mr. Elrington puts extensive effort in finding a peaceful solution to the dispute with Guatemala.
The high voter turnout in the recent elections, 72.6% of all registered voters, emphasizes the strong sense of democracy and stability in the political landscape of Belize, which includes the two main political parties, the UDP and the PUP and other minor parties.

H.E. Mr. Wilfred Elrington, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Belize
